Out of The Past

Out of the Past

We just started to watch Out of the Past in class. The film is in the film noir category because of many techniques like low key lighting, pessimistic mood, and its in black and white. I thought the movie would be bad because it’s in black and white and I don’t those types of films. Also, film noir is noted for having a pessimistic mood so I thought it would be depressing. I like the movie so far because it keeps me wanting to watch more and find out what happens to the main character and its not very depressing.

Well said movie man. I don't really those movies either. They are too bland in my opinion. I understand that movies from the 40s are very different from the action films that are crammed down societies throat, but i just can't find anything redeeming about them. It's a shame because Klobuchar and my Grandparents both said that Film Noir was a great and engaging genre. I disagree, But don't hurt me movieman, i hate disagreeing with you, but this is something i feel very strongly about.

Yep I think you hit the nail on the head quimboslice. those are alot of characteristics of film noir, and i also agree that Out of the Past kept me interested up until the end. But, I don't think the mood is so much pessimistic as it is just dark. The end of Out of the Past actually seems to end on kind of a high note, as the kid salutes his old boss and friend.

Well this movie left me on both sides of the spectrum. I am on the Movie Mans side on the fact that I did want to see where the main character was going and what could happen. But I am also on Hunters side the way it is bland and boring. At the end of the film I was still on both sides the movie was entertaining but the ending just sucked....the main character dyeing ...just wow ...what is the point if the "good guy" doesn't prevail.
