Coen Brothers

I think that the three films that we just watched as been the best movies that we have watched in art of film this whole year. There were a few things in the movies that i didn't like. I didn't like the way No Country for Old Men ended. I feel like it didn't have an ending it just stoped in the middle of a movie. The liked the movie untill moss was killed by the mexicans. I just didn't see that coming and it didn't seem like it should turn out like that. I still like the movie even if the ending was one of the worst i have ever seen.

Altman

His movies were OK but i didn't like them that much. I didn't really like the way he had actors lines overlap. It did make the movie more real life but for some reson it just bugged me. Also i didn't like how he made it so you couldn't alway hear every thing that people are saying. I would like to hear every thing. That really pissed me off when i couldn't hear stuff that people were saying.

Panic Room

I would have to say that going into watching Panic Room I expected it to be really thrilling and exciting like Fight Club, but after watching the film I expected more from the director David Fincher. It kept me engaged somewhat but it I got a little bored. I think it’s because I had to watch this movie for class and I didn’t really feel like watching it. Well anyway I did like the way he use different shots that you don’t see a lot. There was this one I like a lot that went throughout the house. It was a crane shot that showed you the whole setting. I wondered if it was really all real or if some of it was digitally made. I thought it was really cool.

I would also like to add that I noticed that in this film it shows greed and in many of his other films he deals with other negative things in society. In Fight Club it deals with consumerism, in Seven it shows the seven deadly sins, and in Zodiac there is a serial killer. I think he has a hidden massage that he shows in his films. I think he’s trying to inform the audience of the bad parts of society. That could be a little farfetched but it’s what I was thinking about when I got bored watching Panic Room.

Kiss me Deadly

All i can say is WOW. Kiss me Deadly looks like a good movie until the end. It's ending is unexpected and does not fit the movie very well. It's like a sci-fi ending and has to be the worsed ending I have hever seen. There is a box with light in it that starts a woman on fire and blows up a house after about five minutes. I'm going to say that again, worst ending ever.

Out of The Past

Out of the Past

We just started to watch Out of the Past in class. The film is in the film noir category because of many techniques like low key lighting, pessimistic mood, and its in black and white. I thought the movie would be bad because it’s in black and white and I don’t those types of films. Also, film noir is noted for having a pessimistic mood so I thought it would be depressing. I like the movie so far because it keeps me wanting to watch more and find out what happens to the main character and its not very depressing.

Unforgiven

Unforgiven

The other day we watched the movie Unforgivion which is a western. I thought the movie was very well made. It was not all gun fights and bar fights. Unlike most films it shows that it’s not easy to take someone’s life. In most films people kill people all the time with out even thinking twice. It’s a good change and I liked to see that. The movie was more authentic then most westerns and that’s why I liked it.

The movie “Citizen Kane” in my book was not bad, but not good. It had a lot of good things about it like editing, lighting, shots, and characters that made it OK, but I would not call it one of the best movies out there. It just didn’t keep me entertained and in a few spots it was very boring. More action in the film would have made it better, but I don’t think it would have gone along with the movie.
